5 Easy Summer Fashion Tips for Women Over 50

5 easy summer fashion tips for women over 50

Summer is the perfect season to embrace ease, elegance, and a little fun with fashion. For women over 50, the focus shifts from chasing trends to finding pieces that offer comfort, confidence, and timeless style. Whether you’re headed to a backyard barbecue, a beach getaway, or simply enjoying a sunny stroll, here are five simple fashion tips to help you look and feel fabulous this summer. To me, summer is the easiest fashion season. A cute dress, sandals, and accessories are all you need to look and feel fabulous!

1. Lighten Up with Breathable Fabrics

The key to staying comfortable and chic in the heat is choosing the right fabrics. Look for natural, breathable materials like cotton, linen, and rayon blends. These fabrics allow your skin to breathe and help you stay cool while still looking put-together. A flowy cotton maxi dress or a linen button-down paired with soft trousers can go a long way in keeping you fresh and stylish all day. Summer linen has been my go-to this season.

2. Embrace Color and Prints

Summer is the season to play with color. Rich coral, soft lavender, turquoise, or even crisp white can brighten your look and your mood. Don’t shy away from floral prints, soft geometrics, or subtle stripes—they add personality and vibrancy without overwhelming your outfit. A printed blouse or scarf can instantly elevate a simple ensemble while adding a splash of interest. My favorite brand is Lilly Pulitzer, and the bright colors and prints are perfect for summer.

3. Invest in Versatile, Comfortable Footwear

A supportive yet stylish pair of sandals is a must. Whether you’re walking the boardwalk or meeting friends for lunch, your feet deserve comfort. Look for cushioned soles, arch support, and breathable materials. Metallic tones, tan leathers, or classic espadrilles are both functional and fashionable—easy to pair with almost anything in your closet. My favorites are a gold pair of flat sandals and a gold wedge.

4. Opt for Light Layers

Even on warm days, a breezy cardigan, kimono, or lightweight jacket can be essential for cooler evenings or air-conditioned spaces. I am always cold inside places and a light sweater is a necessity. Layering also allows you to adjust your outfit throughout the day. Look for light colors and soft fabrics that drape well—nothing too bulky or structured. A white cotton duster or a soft chambray shirt worn open over a tank can be your go-to summer layer.

5. Accessorize with Intention

Accessories are the easiest way to update your summer wardrobe without a full overhaul. Think wide-brimmed hats for sun protection, oversized sunglasses, or statement earrings to add a pop of style. A roomy, woven tote can carry everything from sunscreen to a paperback while still looking effortlessly chic. Choose accessories that reflect your personality and make you feel polished without extra fuss. The right accessories can make the outfit.

Final Thought

Style at any age is about self-expression and confidence. As a woman over 50, you’ve likely honed your personal style—so let summer be a time to enjoy fashion without complication. Keep things easy, breathable, and beautiful, and you’ll radiate that timeless elegance that never goes out of season. Wear what makes you happy!

Happy Styling,

June Favorites

june favorites

June has been a busy busy month. I attended the Pink Retreat in Palm Beach again this year. It just gets better and better each year. Catching up with friends, it’s always a great time. We pick up right where we left off, those friendships are priceless. We have been busy keeping up in the gardens with summer in full swing. I don’t know about you but we have had no rain here in weeks. With lots of water and care, the plants are hanging in there. June was a mix of all sorts of favorites. I hope you enjoy it!

My new issue of Bella Grace arrived and I enjoy reading a bit of it every night before bed. It’s uplifting and unlike any other magazine that I have read. This is a magazine that I take my time reading. Bella Grace encourages you to find magic in the ordinary and that everything is special. The photography and stories are beautiful and so well written. There are also worksheets for you to complete to get the most out of this magazine. It has become my favorite treat!

Have you ever been at the airport desperately searching for your luggage? I don’t anymore. I treated myself to a brightly colored suitcase. Trust me, you can’t miss it. I ordered mine on Amazon. Marshalls has a nice selection of bright bags too.  A colorful luggage tag from Lilly Pulitzer makes identification easier too. Who wants to spend time looking for luggage? Not me, I’m ready to get my vacation started.

I make sure to always have a hat with me if I’m traveling somewhere warm. How fun is this hat that I picked up a few years ago? Unfortunately, it is not available anymore but there are great options at all of the stores. I make sure to look stylish and comfortable on travel day. Normally I will wear a comfortable Lilly dress, a sweater over my shoulders(those planes can get so cold), and comfortable sneakers for walking the airports.

I switch my scents each season and my go-to summer fragrance is Beach by Bobbi Brown. It smells exactly like it sounds, the beach. I can’t get enough of it. It pairs nicely with At The Beach from Bath and Body Works too. I use the wash and lotion from there.

I change my front door wreath each season to reflect the time of year. A plain wreath can be dressed up and changed out all year long. Adding a ribbon for the 4th of July or any holiday gives it a fresh look. A guest will get the feel and vibe of your home from the front porch and door decor. Make it welcoming.

I hope you find time to enjoy the great that summer has to offer. It is going to go by so fast.

Easy Spring Style

Spring is here and it’s time to ditch the heavy layers, dark colors, and big boots. Spring style is all about lighter layers, pastel colors, and sandals. I know that I am ready for all of this after the long winter. Spring means fresh, airy, and simple.

Pastel colors are the colors of the season. Is there anything prettier than a beautiful shade of light pink, canary blue, or mint green? These colors say spring is here. Look to the colors of the season for inspiration.

White and pastel jeans will always be a favorite of mine even before Labor Day. Does the no white before Labor Day rule even exist anymore? It doesn’t for me. Pair white jeans with a tunic and gold sandals for an easy spring look. My favorite white jeans are from Lilly Pulitzer and have a little extra rope detail along the side. Old Navy also makes great white jeans. Jeans in pastel colors are a great way to dress up any outfit. Lilly Pulitzer jeans are my favorite. Pair pastel jeans with a coordinating button-down shirt for a look that can go from lunch to the office.

A great jean jacket is a must for the spring season. I own a few different ones from casual to dressy. A favorite is a jacket with a monogram. Everything looks better with a monogram. A jean jacket looks perfect over a sundress or t-shirt. I carry one everywhere because I am always cold inside places. Try a jean jacket in white, another favorite of mine, or a pastel spring color.

Sundresses are my go-to all spring and summer too. Throw a sundress on, add a cute pair of sandals and jewelry and you have instant style. My favorite sundresses are from Lilly Pulitzer and I have so many in my collection. I usually add a few to my wardrobe each season and I get my use out of them.

Spring means it’s time to have fun with accessories too. I love colorful Tory Burch sandals to pair with my spring styles. Jewelry can be fun and playful. I love my acrylic monograms from Molly B Originals and have them from mini to large. Stacks of bracelets in colorful colors and mixed metals are a must now that we are wearing short sleeves again.

These are just a few of my favorite ways to style and update my wardrobe for spring. A few new pieces and swaps will have you ready for the warm weather and sunshine in no time. Enjoy!

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day is such a special day to celebrate moms and the women that have made a difference and impact on our lives. Honestly, Mother’s Day should be celebrated every day. It’s hard work. It is nice to treat mom to a day and something special just for her. We always spend part of Mother’s Day with our moms and then usually have dinner out. Bob always goes to the nursery and picks out a plant for me and both our moms. He has done it for years and it’s really sweet. I rounded up a few of my favorites for Mother’s Day guaranteed to warm mom’s heart.

aembr secret garden
Natural and clean scent

Spring-scented candles are always a favorite. Secret Garden from Aembr is a fragrance that I love for the season. Aembr candles are luxury, clean-burning candles formulated by Kristina Braly in her own home. She left her job as a doctor to pursue her dream of owning her own company creating luxury candles that are not full of toxins. The vessels and packaging are beautiful too, she has thought of every detail. I love that story and supporting a woman-owned business. These sell out so quickly each release because they are made in small batches.

5 minute journal
My go-to journal

A beautiful journal makes a wonderful gift. There are so many beautiful options out there. Pair a journal with a pretty pen tied with a bow for a lovely gift. I enjoy writing in my journal daily. It is something that I started during the pandemic and have kept up with it ever since. This is a favorite of mine, a few minutes spent writing in it each morning and evening.

mothers day gift guide,Gardening gifts
Gardening gifts

I told you that Bob always picks out plants for our moms and they both really enjoy spending time in the garden. Beautiful garden gloves, a gardening set, or another favorite of mine, a gardening journal are perfect for the garden lover. A trug to carry flowers and produce in makes a lovely gift. Plant a little herb garden for mom to keep by her door and she can pick herbs for cooking anytime.

longaberger
Gorgeous and practical

Mother’s Day with Longaberger is always full of beautiful, sentimental, and special gifts that any mother would love. The round storage basket is brand new for Mother’s Day and this soft green is my favorite color yet. Gorgeous. The Mother’s Day Gift Shop has everything you need to let mom know how special she is. Does she love to garden? A trug or utility shears make gardening easy. Does she love jewelry? A Longaberger watch, ring, charm, or leather bracelet is a sophisticated choice. Does she love perfume? Longaberger perfumes are unique and divine. Is mom a fahionista? The woven handbag is a beautiful, functional, and stylish gift.

mothers day gift guide farmhouse fresh
A sweet treat for mom

Treat mom to a little luxury from FarmHouse Fresh. This is my go-to skincare and body care line. This gist set is a favorite and I purchased it for myself. This basketful of Sweet Tea favorites is scented with a favorite southern drink of peach, ginger, and white tea. It includes hand cream and triple-milled bar soap. The sweet tea scent is light and fresh and I love the little basket it comes in.

mothers day gift guide, time together
Mom & I on an adventure

But, my favorite gift of all to give mom, is time spent together. I have started doing this too with my mom. I will pick out something for us to do together. We have enjoyed paint night, creating a fairy garden, exploring new places in our area, and so much more. Really, isn’t that the best gift of all?

I hope you enjoyed this blog and maybe picked up an idea or two for your mom. My hope is that you get to enjoy the day with those that you love.

Favorite Spring Scents

spring scents

Spring is here and that means new scents and fragrances. I am one of those that likes to change my perfumes, home fragrances, and candles every season. I love my Cedar Violet and woody scents but it is time to lighten things up for spring, and I am ready for the change.

Candles and home fragrances set the tone, mood, and feel of a home. I ordered some lavender and pink jasmine refills for my Pura device(which I love), and I am looking forward to trying those as soon as I get them.

magnolia hearth and hand herbs
A fresh pot of herbs

I was in Target a few weeks ago and can’t resist browsing the candles and Heart & Hand Magnolia collection. It’s such a beautiful collection. This collection “Herbs” smells exactly like it sounds, a pot of freshly grown herbs. I picked up a diffuser and candle. The rustic look of the candle looks perfect in any decor. I will repurpose it when the candle is gone.

longaberger lily of the valley candle
Welcoming Spring scents

Lily of the Valley is another one of my favorite scents. Can you tell I gravitate toward florals? Santal, Lily of the Valley Candle from Longaberger by Carrie Kelly Lifestyle smells like sandalwood, linen, and lily of the valley. This Lush candle is a complex blend that can enhance any room. Each candle is topped with dried rose petals and rose quartz crystals which just adds to its beauty.

mackenzie childs lotion, february favorites
For soft hands

Another favorite brand of mine, Mackenzie-Childs has ventured out into scents too. The Lavender Fields hand lotion sits by my bedside table and it is the last thing that I put on every night before going to sleep. The bottle is beautiful and the scent is light lavender and eucalyptus, a perfect scent for a good night’s sleep.

aerin lilac path
Freshly picked lilacs

As I said before, I change my perfumes each season too. Is there a better scent for Spring than lilac? I love Aerin Lauder fragrances, they are all so unique (Cedar Violet is my go-to Winter scent), and Lilac Path is a favorite for Spring. Lilac Path weaves a delicate story of crisp greens, rich blooms, and delicate petals. Evocative Lilac infuses the scent with inviting depth, heightened by lush fragrant Galbanum. Creamy Jasmine Lactones blend with soft Angelica Seed Oil and Orange Flower to create an incredible scent.

une balade en forte beauty pie
Fresh and light

Une Balade En Foret from Beauty Pie. is a surprise scent for Spring. It is not overly floral but I really enjoy it. Beauty Pie is a membership-based skincare, makeup, and fragrance line. I have incorporated many of the skincare products into my routine(along with my favorite FarmHouse Fresh) and have been so impressed with the results. High-end skincare without the middleman or high-end price tag. But, back to the perfume. I ordered a sample set so I could try them all. There are a few that could be dupes for some high-end fragrances too(one is a dupe for my beloved Cedar Violet). An atmospheric blend of aromatic Balsam Fir and earthy Gentian Absolute, warmed by Cashmere and Amber Woods and brightened with a touch of citrus ‘zing’ on top. It’s a little more wintery but I am really enjoying it.

These are just a few of my favorites for Spring. I imagine that I will find a few more favorites along the way this year. I always do. Fragrances are very personal. When you find one that speaks to you, enjoy it. I would love to know your favorite Spring scents too.

February 2023 Favorites

february favorites

Can you believe that March is here? Soon the flowers will be blooming and the weather will slowly start to warm up. I am really looking forward to warmer weather and sunshine. I am ready to start working in the gardens! February was a short but busy month. I tried new skincare that I am loving, found a new accessory line, and so much more. Here are five of my favorites from February.

farmhouse fresh, february favorites
Incredible skincare

I’m getting to the end of my Theorem skincare supply and I have been checking out a few new lines. FarmHouse Fresh has blown me away with incredible results after just a couple of weeks. I am still using products from Beauty Pie as well, and their products have worked wonders too. I’m trying to eliminate as many toxins from my products as I can and FarmHouse Fresh is free of parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, and fragrance phthalates. The products are also made in the USA using up to 100% natural ingredients that are grown on their farm, how cool is that? The company is also women-owned and the profits are used to help abused animals rescued and living at their Farm Animal Sanctuary(which I love so much and support). I started with just a couple of products and could not believe how fresh and clear my skin looked and I quickly ordered more. I rarely wear much makeup and prefer my ByTerry CC serum and Ilia serum instead of foundation. You can also set up a video chat with one of their specialists and discuss which products are right for you and tons of samples are included with every order. I will do a full blog on my routine soon too but if I had to pick one product to start with it, the Wine Down serum would be it, it’s amazing.

mackenzie childs lotion, february favorites
For soft hands

Another favorite from the beauty range is this Lavender Fields hand lotion from Mackenzie-Childs. Mackenzie-Childs is so much more than just home decor. The bottle is beautiful on my bedside table and the scent is light and fresh. My hands have been so incredibly dry this winter and this lotion is saving the day. Applying a generous amount of this on my hands is my very last step at night before bed.

bella grace magazine, february favorites
An inspirational and beautiful magazine

I was at Michael’s looking for some craft supplies when I came across this magazine, Bella Grace. The cover was beautiful and it stopped me in my tracks. I flipped through it but did not buy it. I ended up going back the next day to pick it up. It is one of those magazines that is meant to be read over time. Their belief is that an ordinary life can be extraordinary, there is beauty in imperfection, and that magic can be found in the everyday. I love this and I have been enjoying reading a bit of this daily. I have to stop myself from reading all of it at once.

lobe love, february favorites
Beautiful accessories

A few weeks ago I went to a Galentine’s Day event filled with vendors and shopping. I came across Lobe Love and their beautiful headbands and I was hooked. I picked up a couple of headbands and they are so comfortable to wear. With my hair longer I am always looking for cute accessories to add to my collection. The owner and her daughter were so sweet and I enjoyed chatting with them too.

lilly pulitzer scarf, february favorites
An easy accessory

You know that I love, love, love my Lilly Pulitzer scarves. A scarf is a quick way to add style and color to an outfit while also being practical. I tend to get cold inside places and having a scarf with me makes for an easy shawl. This one happened to be in the same print as the pants that I was wearing that day too. Lilly scarves are an accessory that I can’t live without.

A variety of fun favorites this month. March looks to be a fun month with Spring Training baseball, St. Patrick’s Day, and time spent outdoors.

October Favorites

october favorites

October favorites, I can’t believe that I am already writing October. How fast has this year gone? I will admit that I have already started holiday planning and shopping. October is always an in-between month. The weather can be warm, cold, or anywhere in the middle. It certainly has been here. I fell in love with a new jewelry line this month, a favorite new book, a new beauty tool, and more. Enjoy this month’s favorites.

bronwen jewelry
Jewelry for the active lifestyle

Bronwen jewelry has become a new favorite of mine. I first came across it at the boutique I’m working at, and the pieces are so pretty. My favorite part is that they are designed by an active woman looking for jewelry to hold up to workouts, outdoor activities, swimming, sleep, water, and just about anything else you can think of. These pieces are designed to leave on and stay beautiful. I have been adding to my collection often.

longaberger holiday shop
Longaberger Holiday Shop

It’s never too early to start shopping and planning for the holidays. The Longaberger Holiday Shop is full of baskets, pottery, glassware, ornaments, and much more to make the holiday season a breeze. I ordered the mittens basket which is the inspiration for this year’s staircase design. I also added a few mini baskets and an ornament to my collection. Baskets are an easy way to decorate and organize a beautiful holiday table. I use many of my baskets for our annual Christmas Eve event.

spooky snack mix
Spooky snack mix

We were having a Hocus Pocus dinner and movie night and I was looking for a fun and spooky treat to serve. Snack mix, it’s always a favorite and easy to change up for any season, holiday, or theme. For this spooky snack mix, I combined Bugles, pepitas, microwave kettle corn,  and dried cranberries. I melted some white chocolate to drizzle over it and then added candy corn and M&M’s. It was delicious and a big hit!

jade roller
A must for your skin

I recently started using a jade roller, and OMG why have I not been using this? I have been using it every night after I apply my serum and the results are immediate. My skin looks smooth and my product is absorbed even better into my skin. I also love the cooling sensation on my skin too.

daily book of sunshine
Morning inspiration

I start every morning by writing in my journal and with a little inspiration. I came across this book on Amazon and picked it up. The Little Book of Daily Sunshine. It’s bite-sized pieces of inspiration to start the day. Many of these little nuggets will get you thinking and I am always looking for ways to be more positive and inspired.

I hope you enjoyed my October favorites. The rest of the year is going to go even faster. Make sure to stop and enjoy it all!

Easy Fall Fashion Favorites

easy fall fashion favorites

Fall is here and it is time to break out the warm sweaters, jeans, boots, and accessories. I like to pick up a few new pieces each season to incorporate into my Fall wardrobe. I love the ease of Summer dressing but there is just something about the colors and warmth of Fall styling. Here are just a few of my favorites.

easy fall fashion favorites
Prana plaid perfect for Fall

I love dresses and a great dress for Fall is so versatile. This dress from Prana is perfect for the season. I would dress this up with tights and a tall pair of boots or down with flats or a sporty-looking boot. The colors in this piece just say Fall to me and I have been wearing it often.

easy fall fashion favorites
Favorite J. McLaughlin sweater

Basic sweaters are a must but there is nothing basic about these sweaters from J. McLaughlin. I have this sweater in multiple colors and it is such a versatile piece. The gold button detail on the sleeves adds a little extra touch too. I like to add a colorful scarf to make this piece pop or a colorful necklace.

easy fall fashion favorites
A great pair of boots is a must.

A great pair of boots for the season is a must. I love cowboy boots and think they add a unique flair to any outfit. There are so many styles, colors, and designs to choose from. This pair from Roper caught my eye when I was browsing on Zappos. The color is so pretty and the black underneath is actually sparkly and just adds a little something unexpected.

easy fall fashion favorites
A favorite sweater

This poncho-style sweater is going to be on rotation all season long. From Carve Designs, it also comes in other colors which I will be picking up soon. I wore this with jeans, my boots, and bold jewelry for a night out. I could see this being styled in so many ways.

easy fall fashion favorites
Fall monograms

Jewelry is such an easy way to change the look of an outfit. Molly B Originals is one of my favorites for monogrammed and acrylic pieces. This clear acrylic in a modern monogram with a leaf design was a new addition for Fall. I also picked up a Lilly-inspired pumpkin and a holiday piece, it’s never too early to start thinking about the holidays.

I hope you enjoyed a peek at a few of my Fall favorites. Now, go enjoy the cool weather in your favorite snuggly sweater.

September Favorites

september favorites

Fall is finally here, the leaves are turning, the air is getting crisper, and the days are getting shorter. It has been unseasonably hot here so this is a welcome change. Fall decor is done and we are enjoying cooking new soups and comfort food recipes. I thought with the change of seasons that I would share a few of my favorites from September.

molly b originals
Fun seasonal accessories

I always like to add a few new accessories each season. Molly B Originals is one of my favorites for unique monogram pieces. You know I love a good monogram. When I saw the clear acrylic with leaf pattern, I knew it would be perfect for Fall. I picked the chic monogram style and love how it turned out. Of course, I had to get a Lilly-inspired piece too. This pumpkin is adorable, and I know I will wear it all season. I have quite a few Molly B pieces and I love that you have the option to change the pendant without buying an entire new necklace on certain pieces.

capri blue volcano
A unique scent

Scents are a quick and easy way to change the feel and vibe of a space. Capri Blue Volcano has been a favorite of mine for years. It is a hard scent to describe but it is one of those that is always recognized. Capri Blue has so many wonderful scents. I always pick up a new candle each season.

longaberger bentwood pumpkin
Perfect decor for Fall

How cute is this bentwood pumpkin from Longaberger? I thought the design was so unique and knew it was a piece that I wanted to add to this year’s decor. I chose the small pumpkin and this color is gorgeous. Each piece s handmade and will be in my Fall decor for many years to come. Longaberger has so many gorgeous and unique pieces for Fall.

tiered trays
So many options

Tiered trays are one of my most useful and versatile pieces. This year’s fall tray was made with pieces left over from previous projects. I added some garland, pumpkins, acorns, and cotton. The metal words were from DollarTree, and I thought they were the perfect addition. The little truck lights up too. The options with a tiered tray are endless.

theorem alpha cleanser
Theorem Alpha cleanser

I must admit that sometimes in the Summer I am a little lax in my skincare. Fall is the perfect time to get back to my routine and back on track. Alpha cleanser from Theorem has been my go-to. Alpha is a resurfacing gel-based cleanser packed full of AHA, BHA, and peppermint. I only use it a few times a week and my skin feels incredibly refreshed and cleansed. I have noticed a definite change in my skin. My skin is smoother, brighter, and less congested.

I hope you enjoyed a peek at a few of my favorites from September. Maybe you find something new that you would like to try too. Wishing you a wonderful Fall season. I’m looking forward to it.

July Favorites

july favorites

July favorites, wow, the year is flying by. We have been in a heatwave here like so much of the country. I am getting out early every morning to work in the yard and late in the evening for my walks. Summer means life is a little slower and more relaxed. I know that I like to simplify during the summer too. These are a few of my favorites for July.

the laudress crease release
For wrinke-free clothes

Who wants to iron in the summer (or really anytime)? I have been reaching for this crease release from The Laudress often. It really does eliminate wrinkles and creases and the scent is light, fresh, and airy. This is the first product that I have purchased from their line and I think I am going to look into a few more of their products. I love fresh-smelling laundry and the packaging is beautiful as well.

longaberger gentle face scrub
A gentle exfoliation

My skin gets a little more sensitive and reactive in the heat of the summer. I have been reaching for this Gentle Face Scrub from Longaberger a few times each week. Did you know that Longaberger has a line of natural skincare products? This scrub does not contain the plastic microbeads like so many others do and gives skin a smooth and soft glow!

molly b originals necklace
A beautiful custom piece

I can’t resist a monogram necklace. Molly B Originals has a beautiful collection of necklaces as well as other jewelry pieces. I love that this necklace has a removable monogram so I can just buy other monograms and reuse the necklace. Genius!

theorem helix conditioning curl cleanser
For soft shiny hair

Theorem Helix Conditioning Curl Cleanser may be a surprise favorite because I do not have curly hair. It really should just be named a cleansing conditioner. I love a one-step system. This product makes my hair so soft, smooth, bouncy and conditioned. It has been a new favorite for me.

the lost summers of newport
A great summer read

Last, but not least a great summer read. My book club selected this book for July and I have really enjoyed it. The Lost Summers of Newport is written by 3 different authors and intertwines generations of families and their Newport mansions. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought I had the ending figured out, but I was wrong!
