Spring Kitchen Refresh

Spring Kitchen Refresh

Spring has sprung! I am so happy to see bits of color popping up and plants coming back to life. I love the change of seasons, and I think Spring is the perfect time to refresh and lighten up my decor. I started with the kitchen. I am spending some time at my home in Arizona and I like to keep the look light and bright in here to complement the darker cabinetry.

I love the lemon decor for the kitchen and when Initial Outfitters released a new lemon print line, I knew it would be perfect for my kitchen. The lemon wreath and vase of lemons were already part of my decor. Organizing things together gives a clean look, and this tray from Mackenzie-Childs holds my soaps, lotions, and cleaners. I swapped out my placemats for this lemon design personalized from Initial Outfitters and it really lightened up the counter area. Simple changes can make the biggest difference. Last year I also swapped out my darker barstools for lighter ones too. I like to mix and match my finishes.

The main counter got a spruce as well. The Royal Check collection from Mackenzie Childs has become my new favorite collection. The bright blue is gorgeous, and I love how you can mix and match all of their collections and still have a cohesive look. I have many Courtly Check pieces. The blue with the hot pink orchid from HomeGoods give the counter a pop of color, and I love hot pink and blue together. I’m starting to collect the Royal Check collection piece by piece. Again, I use trays to organize items. By the cooktop, I’m using a slate tray from Initial Outfitters to organize my everyday spices. The charcuterie board is also IO. I love the glass cutting boards, and I always have a couple of them displayed in my kitchen. I change the wooden cutout on the wreath above the cooktop for every season and holiday to create a new look. Simple. Of course, I had to have the lemon design. Google home keeps me organized and I use it to play music, give me recipes, and general info.

My kitchen table is one of my favorites. A beautiful focal point in the room, and I always have it set properly. Fresh flowers are always a must. Again, I’m using the Parchment Check pattern from Mackenize-Childs vase as a centerpiece as well as the napkin holder. The monogrammed runner from IO is a fun addition too. Fun flamingo placemats and plates from Pier 1 with pink napkins and hydrangea rings complete the table look. I recovered the chairs a few years ago from a dark fabric to a fun and lighter design.

I really like the results from my kitchen makeover. It really was quick. I just added the IO lemon design pieces, Mackenzie-Childs Royal Check pieces, and swapped out the placemats on the kitchen table. Five minutes and I have a new look perfect for Spring. Are you changing your decor for Spring?

Outdoor Holiday Decor

Outdoor winter decor makes me so happy. I love seeing all of the lights around town glowing and sparkling during the cold winter months. It gets dark so early in the winter and all of the lights just look beautiful.

This year I went with some black and white buffalo check mixed with my touches of pink and green Lilly inspired touches. It gets so windy here sometimes we decided a few years ago not to put lights across the entire house. It seems like we would get them up and some would blow off or go out and it would drive me crazy. Now we just hang a large wreath in the foyer window and I think it gives just the same look. My garland on the door is also lit and trimmed with bows in the corners and pink and green ornaments. Last year I purchased the ball topiaries on Amazon and just love them. I keep them out all year and just add lights at the holidays. Just a classic look. The personalized garden flag is from Initial Outfitters by Carrie. My potting bench was trimmed with a large lantern and pot, simple and festive. I change out the pillows on my bench and the tables have a wreath and lantern on them too. Can you tell I love lanterns? They just make everything pretty. A tree in the corner completes the porch. My coach lanterns all have a wreath with lights and pink and green ornaments. A different look instead of swags. I saw this look at Opryland Hotel and thought it was so pretty. A simple lit tree and pots with greenery complete the decor. Simple, classic, and elegant with a touch of fun Lilly whimsy.

Enjoy the holiday season and beautiful decor.

Holiday Dining Room Sparkle

It’s that time of year again, time to deck the halls. If you are like me, you deck every room in your house. I really enjoy decorating for the holidays even though it may not always seem that way when doing it. The results are always worth the craziness and mess. I think I am covered in glitter for months.

My dining room is my favorite room to decorate. You have so many options in which to decorate the table. I tend to do a different color scheme or theme in each room. A snowy, sparkling winter wonderland was my theme this year. A furry table runner was the starting point. Adding a sleigh, hurricanes with gold candles, and the various trees give the long table some height. I like to add little touches like pearls and crystal jewels. It just adds to the sparkle. Ornaments and deer finish off the tablescape. A proper place setting always looks beautiful on a table. I found all of these chargers and dinner plates at DollarTree. The smaller plates were from Pier 1 They are perfect. Adding a spring of greenery around a napkin brings a little bit of a natural element in.

To finish the room I display my collection of Spode dishes on a table. I created a new wreath with an antler wooden cutout from Initial Outfitters by Carrie. I painted it in holographic paint added it to a wreath with a few accessories and hung it in a window. There is also a small strand of lights in it and when it is lit the holographic paint really sparkles. I hung another banner in the other window as well. My china cabinet is decked out with a pretty garland. A beautiful joy sign to remind us to be joyful this season and ornaments, pearls, and jewels complete the look.

The dining room really comes alive at night with the lights off and just the glow of all of the candles and accent lighting. It really is beautiful. Happy decorating.

Favorite Kitchen Decor

I love to change the look of my kitchen for each season and holiday. Initial Outfitters by Carrie makes it so easy to create a new look with just a few pieces. We aren’t going to paint our walls, change our cabinets, counters, and flooring often, but we can change our accessories. These are a few of my favorite pieces.

Slate pieces are the hottest trend and I think this tray and charcuterie board are perfect. They coordinate with any style and also make a great gift. I have a set I’m using on my dining table to display pumpkins and fall decor. Very versatile pieces.

Glass cutting boards look beautiful displayed on a counter or in a cabinet. These look too pretty to use. I have a selection that I change out for each holiday and season. A quick way to make a big impact on my counter. I usually have one displayed in my kitchen, dining room, and family room. These are also my go-to gifts for any occasion.

Coasters are also a quick way to create a new look. I have many designs of these as well. I like to mix and match my designs, pair a cutting board or placemat set with a different design of coasters. Pretty and functional.

My dining and kitchen tables are always set with monogrammed napkins and napkin rings. These are beautiful and give a formal look to any table setting. With so many colors and fonts to choose from your napkins can coordinate with any look.

I enjoy crafting and these wooden cutouts let me customize each piece to match my decor. The variety of designs is endless. They also make for a fun girls night out too. I create a new wreath for each season and use these in so many ways in my decor.

I hope you have enjoyed a peek at a few of my favorite home decor products from Initial Outfitters. Snap a picture of your favorite home accessory.

Happy Decorating

Fall Holiday Decor

Happy Fall Y’All

I really enjoy decorating for each season. Each season has its own feel, color schemes, and scents For fall, I like to bring in some richer colors, metallics, and lots of candles. You can never have enough candles. My favorites are ones on timers or with remote controls so you don’t even need to worry about them. Everything looks better with the glow of candlelight, especially with it getting darker earlier in the evening.

A few things I like to do is to concentrate the bulk of my decor in just a few spaces and sprinkle a little throughout the rest of the house. Create a big bang in a few areas. I usually concentrate on my foyer, mantle, fireplace, and shelving in my family room, staircase, and dining table. I will pair some of my high-end Mackenzie-Childs pieces with pieces I find at DollarTree, Walmart, Target, and HomeGoods. They always have a fabulous selection and I frequent them often. All of the box stores have really stepped up their game in the last few years.

As always, decorate however it makes you happy. If you love your decor, it’s perfect. Just have fun with it and hopefully, I can inspire and give you some fresh ideas. Happy decorating.

Five Minute Fall Decor

Fall is finally here and it’s time to bring in the warm colors of fall into our home decor. Does the thought of changing out your decor stress you out especially with the holiday season right around the corner? Do you skip decorating for fall altogether? What if I could help you decorate a room in five minutes with five accessories? Sounds easy, right? It really is with a few perfect pieces.

Let me show you my kitchen refresh for fall. Clearing out the summer decor and pineapple placemats and accessories were the first steps. It’s nice to start with a clear space to really see all of the possibilities. I love bringing in some warm-colored pieces and buffalo plaid prints are some of my favorites. I switched out my pineapple placemats for a gray buffalo plaid with a pumpkin personalized with our name for our counter eating area. Personalized pieces are a quick and easy way to achieve a high-end designer look. These are pieces you won’t see in everyone’s kitchen and on every store shelf. Mixing patterns is always a great idea, pieces don’t always need to match, they just need to go together.

With that thought, I used personalized black placemats on the kitchen table to coordinate with my napkins and napkin rings. It all pairs nicely. A pumpkin soup tureen from Pier 1 became a pretty centerpiece. My napkin holder is a Nora Fleming piece. I love her pieces because you only need to switch the minis to create a new look. Their collection contains minis for every holiday, season, and occasion. I highly recommend them. A fall candle and fresh flowers complete the table. Fresh flowers are always a must in my house.

Kitchen Table Refresh

The last few changes were simple. I always have a personalized cutting board on my counter and I just switched it out for the same pumpkin style as my kitchen counter placemats. A Mackenzie-Childs pumpkin and fall candle add to the display. Switching my summer kitchen towels for pretty fall ones was the last step in the kitchen refresh. Towels are such an easy way to achieve a quick change. Normally I add garland to the windows but decided to leave them out this year. I wanted a clean, uncluttered look.

What do you think? I really did just do this refresh in just five minutes with five accessories. Room designs don’t have to be complicated, sometimes less is more. I really enjoy the simple uncluttered look before the holiday decorating begins. Enjoy the crisp fall weather and changing colors.

DIY Fall Wreaths

It certainly doesn’t feel like it but fall will be here soon. I’m looking forward to cozy sweaters, bonfires, and warm apple cider. I am also going to try some new fall recipes in my Instapot and some new soups. I could eat soup every day. If you are like me it is time to change my decor from the bright, fun, and whimsical summer theme to a more earthy, warmer toned fall theme. I enjoy changing my decor for each season and it keeps things from feeling too stale in the house.

I ordered a couple of new wooden cutouts from Initial Outfitters and wanted to create a couple of new pieces. The acorn was something different and it really caught my eye. Painting it turquoise gives it a pop of color but still fits in with my fall theme. The white frame with chicken wire I have had and used for different things. It’s great if you can repurpose something and think outside of the box. I thought it would be nice to combine these two pieces instead of doing a traditional wreath. Ribbon and floral picks were leftover from a previous project and I added these in. I really like how this turned out and the frame is going to be a great piece to repurpose each season. Change the cutout, bow, and flowers and you have a whole new look.

The happy fall cutout is a new one, and when I saw that I knew it was just what I wanted for the front door. I like a piece I can use all season and maybe add a few extra accessories for a holiday or special occasion. Warm, metallic looks are so on-trend and this was the look I wanted for this piece. I painted the happy fall part in a metallic copper paint but decided to leave our name natural for contrast. Since this piece will be on the door a clear coat is a must to protect it from the elements. Again, I repurposed a wreath I had, the grapevine is a perfect natural element for fall. Adding a strand of cream pumpkin garland and a burlap bow finished the look. I like the cream colors against the copper and darker grapevine. For Halloween, I can add some witches and bats without having to create a whole new piece.

DIY doesn’t have to be complicated and by taking what you already have and adding to it a new look is easily created. I am planning on starting my fall decorating this week and I hope you will follow along for inspiration. Show me your decor too, I am always looking for new ideas. Follow along at Carrie Kelly Designs for videos on these two projects. Enjoy the cooler weather and change of seasons.

Easy Summer Decor

Sweet summertime. Summer is the perfect time to be a little more relaxed and whimsical in your décor, a nice change from the formality of other seasons. With just a few simple changes a room can be completely changed all without spending a fortune. I love to use and repurpose what I have and maybe add just a few new pieces each season. Choosing just a few focal points in a home makes a major impact. I always swap out my décor on my dining table, fireplace mantle, and foyer each season and concentrate the majority of my efforts in those spaces. I also added in my Independence Day decor too.

The dining table is a great way to create a major impact because it is normally the focus of every dining room. I always incorporate a few personalized pieces from Initial Outfitters into each room design to help create that custom space. A burlap table runner embroidered in hot pink sets the tone for my summer table design. Mixing different textures and styles can make your space unique. Swapping out placemats with a fun summer design, adding summer plates with personalized napkins and silver napkin rings keeps the dining table formal but with a fun pop of color. Potted hydrangeas, greenery, flamingos, and candles finish my display. It really says summer and to sit down and have a little fun.

A fireplace mantle is another great place to create a major impact. They are always so pretty on their own and with just a few accessories can really shine. My favorite piece is always a beautiful garland. There are so many lifelike ones on the market today. I actually keep my mantle stylish yet simple and always start with a garland. Hydrangeas are my favorite and are the perfect choice for summer. Adding flameless candles across the mantle looks so pretty at night and mine are always on timers to come on at night. A few simple pineapple votive candles complete my look.

The foyer is another area I like to focus on since it is what guests see when they first enter the home. It can set the tone for the entire home. Every foyer should have a focal piece and I have a large foyer table to work with. Again I start with a burlap table runner that is hot pink and go from there. A fun beachy feel is great for summer and using mini beach chairs in bright colors on my table achieves just that look. A big, lifelike floral arrangement, summer tray, and candlesticks finish off the table. It really welcomes you into summer.

I hope that I have given you some ideas to incorporate into your summer home décor. It really does not have to be difficult or time-consuming. A few simple changes can take your home from spring to summer in no time. Happy decorating.

Spring Has Sprung

My spring table

Spring has sprung. At least here in the Midwest it is trying to. Seems like we have one gorgeous day followed by a few gloomy ones. It is lovely to see the flowers finally start to bloom. I love the change of every season and I enjoy changing my table decor to reflect the current season. This year I went with a classic black and white theme and added a pop of spring color and greenery. I was going for a fresh look after the long winter and wanted to keep it simple.

The custom look of monogrammed pieces always makes a statement. Anything monogrammed or personalized are my favorites. I am a consultant with Initial Outfitters and display our vast array of custom pieces throughout my home and in my decor. First off, a custom table runner sets the tone. Grouping my collection of Emma Bridgewater teapots on a tray in the center of the table looks simple and fresh. They are flanked by Mackenzie Childs candle holders and large vases of faux hydrangeas, my very favorite flower.

The mason jar was something I painted last fall. A fun GNO with friends. I completed the look with buffalo check place mats with custom napkins and napkin rings and added a little greenery. I try to always add a little greenery for a natural element in all of my designs. This was the exact look I was going for simple, clean, and fresh especially after the heavy holiday decorating. It certainly looks like spring to me. Now for the warmer weather to get here.
